Built in 1932, the Stade Félix Bollaert bears the name of its sponsor, the president of the local mines' Administrative Council. When Lens was chosen as a World Cup city, the deal included a thorough renovation job on Félix-Bollaert. Unlike in other cities, this ended up diminishing the stadium's capacity, from 49,581 to 41,275.
